BACKWELL SCHOOL ASSOCIATION

The Backwell School Association (BSA) is the parent/staff association for Backwell School, and a registered charity.  All parents, carers and staff are automatically members of the BSA and the committee is a group of volunteer parents and members of staff.

The primary aim of the BSA is to raise funds which go towards projects which benefit the students of Backwell School.  We organise events to raise funds, we also aim to provide social opportunities for parents and also support Backwell School by providing refreshments for school concerts and drama productions.  Each year the BSA raises around £8,000 to be spent to fund a number of small and large projects.  Previous years have seen the BSA fund a school mini bus, specialised sewing machines for Design and Technology and improvements to the Theatre.   Last year money raised was put towards the purchase of retractable seating for the new Sixth Form Lecture Theatre.  We canvas opinion from students, parents and staff in order to make our contribution to the students of Backwell School as effective as possible.  The committee also provide refreshments at the many concerts and drama productions throughout the year.

BSA / Rotary Charity Walk

The Backwell School Association is teaming up with Nailsea and Backwell Rotary Club and invites you to take part in the Rotary Club Charity Walk on Sunday 23 June 2013.  All money raised will go to the walker's chosen cause and we would like as many people as possible to raise funds for the BSA this year.  The school PTA or School Association with the most sponsored walkers will receive an additional £200 award, so the more the merrier!

Information about the event is available on the Rotary Club website.  This includes full information about the three walks, a registration form and a sponsorship form, which can be downloaded.  There is a £5.00 registration fee which goes to the Rotary Club for those aged 18 and above, but no fee for those under 18.  Any money you raise on the BSA's behalf will go straight to improving student education and experience here at Backwell School.

If you have any questions then please do not hesitate to get in touch with the Rotary Club, or email the BSA at bsa@backwellschool.net

We will be publicising the walks amongst staff and pupils in school in the coming weeks.

Can you help?

We encourage all parents and carers to become active in supporting the events and participate in the organisation and running of events.  One way that you are encouraged to take part is by adding your name to the list of people who have volunteered to help with our various activities.  There is no pressure to participate, but you may be asked if you can find an hour or two occasionally throughout the year to support an event or help with refreshments for a concert.  If you can find the time, it’s a great way to meet people and do something really special for the school and your community.  We’re glad to hear from anyone who would like to help with a specific event or who has a new fund-raising idea they would like to carry out with help from other parents.  It is fun and also worthwhile, knowing every pound raised is directly benefiting our sons and daughters during their time at Backwell School.  It is also good to get an insider view of the school.  Don’t be shy, come and join us, your support is essential.
