SUPERB EXAMINATION RESULTS
Backwell 6th Form students are once again celebrating excellent A Level results this year. 25% of all exam entries were awarded grade A* or A, and no less than 20 students gained at least 3 A* or A grades. Our analysis shows that this year’s A level students have made superb progress in their 2 years from GCSE. By achieving so well in the Creative ad Media Diploma, Dan Leaman achieved 4 A* grades, and Chloe Howse 2A* and an A grade. Head Boy Matt John achieved 4 A*s plus a Distinction in the Advanced Extension Award, and will study Maths at Cambridge, where he will be joined by Sarah Hill (4 A*) and Adam Mason (3A* and 1 A), whilst Katie MacMahon (3 A) and Head Girl Alice Wilcox( 1 A* and 2 A) have chosen the darker shade of blue at Oxford! Amy Leach also gained 3 straight A* grades.
"We are very pleased with this group of students’ achievements. So many have made great progress over the last two years. We are proud not just of those who have achieved the very highest grades, but of the very large number of students who, after much hard work, have achieved their very best. They have been a delightful year group, and are now fully equipped for the next stage in their lives, be it in the world of work or in Higher Education.” Julian Baldwin
EXCELLENT GCSE RESULTS
Backwell students and staff are delighted with their GCSE results this year. No less than 44 students achieved at least 8 A* and A grades. Among so many outstanding performances, Luke Hollander achieved 10 A* and 3 A grades, Eric Keith-Smith 10 A* and 2 As, Robert Gall 9 A* and 4 As, Abigail Threlfall 9 A* and 4 As. 81% of students gained at least 5 A* - C grades.
Backwell students’ results this year are excellent and everyone should be very proud of their achievements. Science, Maths, History and Languages are the best ever. 90% of students gained two higher grades for Science. It appears that, like many other schools across the Country, Backwell has been affected by the unannounced harsher marking in English Language. While the results are very good in English Language (70% A* - C) a number of students have not achieved the grades that they had good reason to expect. The school has expressed concern to the Examination Board and have asked for the grades to be reconsidered.
