Post Ofsted Action Plan

Ofsted Survey Inspection-AFL

Roger Mason
When the last Ofsted Report was published in September 2004 Roger Mason said "Ofsted have confirmed what parents have felt for some considerable time, that Backwell is a very good school. It is clear that our success is the product of the professionalism and commitment of all of the adults who work in the school, the support of governors and parents and the energy and enthusiasm of our students."

Ofsted Names Backwell School in Honours List

Backwell School was named as one of the 123 secondary schools in Ofsted's list of the "best of the best" on 7 January 2005.

Since Ofsted began in1992 they have been listing those schools which have had excellent reports. There are 2,327 of them. Only 234 have had two excellent reports and consistently good results. Of those 234 only 123 are secondary schools and Backwell School is one of them.

Ofsted's Chief Inspector David Bell said the list "stands as testament to the very high quality of education provided in our best schools, sometimes against considerable odds. I congratulate them for what they have achieved".

Roger Mason said, “This recognition is a tremendous vote of confidence in the school. Everyone is delighted that an independent inspectorate has come to the judgement not only that Backwell is an excellent school but that the excellence has been sustained over a long period of time and is not the product of educational fashion or gimmickry.”
