About Us

I am delighted to be able to introduce you to Backwell School.

Backwell School's reputation is as one of the most-sought after schools in the South West. What makes this school special is that it provides consistent academic excellence, yet remains a school whose hallmarks are friendliness, belief in the breadth of opportunity for all and a real sense of community.

The success of the school can be measured by excellent academic results and by its record of helping students to subsequent destinations in education and employments that are challenging and fulfilling. We feel it is equally important to measure our success by the range of opportunities our students experience. We place huge value on the wider curriculum both inside and outside the classroom. At Backwell we believe in promoting respect and tolerance to create an inclusive community of which young people are proud to feel a part of - even many years after they leave the school.

Backwell is a popular school - currently there are 1,300 students in Years 7 to 11 and 390 in the Sixth Form. As well as enabling our young people to achieve academic success, we place a great importance on helping them to develop a strong sense of right and wrong and actively uphold the values of tolerance and mutual respect.

Backwell School joined the Lighthouse Schools Partnership Multi-Academy Trust in January 2018.  The Trust includes both primary and secondary schools, including many of our local primary schools.  This means that we can benefit both from improved continuity moving from primary to secondary school and sharing of best practice between teachers and learning professionals across the trust.

We hope the website will tell you all you need to know about the school.  If you want to find out more please feel free to phone or email us.

You may wish to view our school progress and results data via the Department for Education's schools' performance tables or our most recent Ofsted report.  You can also compare performance tables via the following link.
