Transport to School

For the majority of students travelling to Backwell School from within the school's catchment area transport is provided by the Local Authority.  This may be either by school bus or, in the case of older students, by train or public bus.  For full details regarding eligibility and how to apply for a transport pass, please see the North Somerset website by clicking on the link below.  Alternatively, please call the School Admissions and Transport Team on 01275 884078

Application for a replacement coach pass, bus or train season ticket

If your child is eligible for Home to School transport and has lost their travel pass or season ticket, you will need to contact the relevant transport provider to arrange for a replacement.  Who you contact is dependent on the mode of transport allocated to your child.  Please see below for contact details:

(a)  School Bus .... you will need to contact North Somerset Council's School Admissions and Transport team on 01275 884078.  A £15.00 fee is payable before a replacement pass can be issued. You can write to them at the following address: North Somerset Council, Home to School Transport, Children and Young People's Services, Town Hall, Weston super Mare, BS23 1UJ.


(b)  Public Bus ... you will need to contact First Group direct on 0117 373 6419.  They will charge an administration fee of £10.00.  (Address:  First Group Ltd, Enterprise House, Easton Road, Bristol, BS5 0DZ)


(c)   Train ... to apply for a replacement season ticket you will need to complete the attached GWR application form and take it to a Great Western Railway Ticket office.  An administration fee of £10.00 will be charged.  Click here to download the application form.

Out of Catchment Coach Service

In addition to the service provided by the Local Authority, the school currently runs a paying coach service covering South Bristol and Long Ashton.   It is our intention as far as possible to accommodate every student wishing to use the service, however places are limited and are therefore offered on a first come first serve basis.  All services are currently full for this academic year due to the requirement for social distancing during the Covid-19 pandemic.  We are also no longer able to run the minibus service.

Late Bus

The school is currently running late buses in year group bubbles specifically to support the Clubs and Courses programme and the Year 11 Catch-up sessions as follows:

Monday - Clubs and Courses - Year 9 only

Wednesday - Clubs and Courses - Year 7 only

Thursday - Clubs and Courses - Year 8 only

Monday, Tuesday and Thursday - Year 11 Catch-up classes only

Pupils are to followin the school's face mask, social distancing and hand-sanitizing guidelines at all times.

What to do if the coach is late ...

If a coach is late all students are required to remain at the bus stop until the coach arrives.  In the event of a coach breakdown, a replacement vehicle will be sent as soon as possible. The school posts alerts and updates via Twitter, @Backwell_School, and on the school website, as soon as we become aware of a delay.
