  • Footloose - Sixth Form Production Success

    Published 21/01/26

    WOW! What a show!

Congratulations to our incredible, talented Sixth Form students on their performance of 'Footloose' last week.

This really was an utterly fabulous show, which gave such an uplifting feeling to beat those January blues.

Every aspect of the production was organised and completed by the Sixth Form students, with absolute minimal support from staff. Direction, Choreography, Musical Direction, Blocking, Staging, Costume, Make-up, Mics and technical direction, lighting and so, so much more.

This is such an incredible learning opportunity for our students. We have several very happy Sixth Form members in school this week.

Team Footloose, we are very proud of you all.

  • New 3G Pitch

    Published 09/01/26

We are delighted to see our new 3G astroturf pitch officially open for student use. This fantastic facility further enhances our already outstanding PE curriculum, and will no doubt be welcomed by many families as we move lessons from muddy grass to artificial turf over the coming weeks! It was also wonderful to see the pitch being used by Backwell Juniors Football Club on Tuesday evening. We very much see this as a community facility that we can all be proud of, and we look forward to welcoming more local groups to the school in the weeks ahead.

We are hugely grateful to our specialist contractors, S&C Slatter, for their expertise in creating this fantastic space for both our school and the wider community to enjoy.

  • Backwell Equestrian Team Success

    Published 08/09/25

The whole Backwell School Equestrian team made it to the national British Showjumping finals in August 2025.  We had a team in the 90cm (Lola B, Hattie M & Briony W), Hattie M as an individual at 1m and Holly M as an individual at 60cm and 70cm.  Holly did exceptionally well to qualify in huge classes as these heights are so popular for schools.

The atmosphere was huge for the children and horses at Stoneleigh Park in Kenilworth, with temperatures hitting 34 degrees, loud music, flags and over 50 children in each class – the fastest and the best the UK had to offer.  Our Backwell girls really did do us so proud.

    Here are the results:

90cm team (Lola, Briony & Hattie): 4th place nationally for Backwell School, with Hattie M joint 1st amongst the teams.

1m: Hattie M 7th nationally for Backwell School.

    70cm: Holly M team 4th for Bristol & Somerset.

Congratulations team Backwell. What an incredible set of results!

  • Important information for students coming in to school for A-level results day on Thursday 14 August

    Published 08/08/25

If you are planning on coming to school next week – for A-level/ KS5 results day – please be aware of a road closure in Flax Bourton.

More details are in this link:

    http://www.northsomersettimes.co.uk/news/25349510.a370-close-flax-bourton-five-days-august/

It will impact all buses between Congresbury and Flax Bourton, meaning that none will run past the school on the A370 for the week. Motorists will be diverted via Long Ashton Bypass, Bridgwater Road, Red Hill, and surrounding roads.

Vehicular access via Nailsea and A370 from Yatton seems unimpeded.

    Thank you.
