A Level RESULTS 2026 Press Release - 13 August 2026
Another Year of Academic Excellence and Achievement at Backwell School
Today is a day of celebration for the entire Backwell School community as we recognise the outstanding achievements of our Year 13 students in their A Level and vocational qualifications.
These results are far more than a set of grades. They represent years of dedication, resilience and hard work, and for many students mark the culmination of a seven-year journey through Backwell, from joining us in Year 7 to completing their Sixth Form studies. Along the way, they have embraced challenges, developed new skills, forged lasting friendships and grown into confident young adults ready to take their next steps.
We are immensely proud of everything our students have accomplished. Their success reflects not only their academic ability, but also their determination, perseverance and commitment to making the very most of the opportunities available to them. These achievements are a testament to the countless hours of effort invested by students, supported every step of the way by their families, teachers and support staff.
This year's cohort now embarks on an exciting range of pathways. Many students have secured places at universities across the country, including highly prestigious institutions within the Russell Group and at Oxbridge. Others have successfully gained places on competitive apprenticeship programmes, beginning rewarding careers with local and national employers. Together, these varied destinations demonstrate the breadth of talent, ambition and success across our Sixth Form.
This year's academic outcomes are impressive for our truly comprehensive student cohort. Four students achieved the remarkable distinction of securing A* grades in every subject, while a further twenty students attained straight A grades. Together, these students represent 18% of the cohort. The overall average A Level grade achieved was an excellent B with an average grade of a Distinction in the vocational courses we deliver. Across all qualifications taken, 34% were graded A* to A, 54% A* to B, and 98% A* to E, demonstrating both outstanding achievement at the highest level and strong attainment across the cohort as a whole.
As a school, we celebrate every student's journey and every destination. Whether progressing to higher education, apprenticeships, employment or further training, each individual has achieved something significant and should be enormously proud of what they have accomplished.
On behalf of everyone at Backwell School, congratulations to our Year 13 Class of 2026. We thank you for your contribution to our community over the past seven years and wish you every success and happiness in the next chapter of your lives. We look forward to seeing all that you will achieve in the years ahead. Remember, wherever life takes you, you will always be part of the Backwell family because We Are Backwell; a community that will always be proud of you and a place to which you will always belong.

GCSE RESULTS 2026 Press Release - 20 August 2026
Proud of Our Students, Proud of Our Community, Proud to Be Backwell
Today, we are delighted to celebrate the outstanding achievements of our Year 11 students as they receive their GCSE results. These results reflect not only academic success, but also the resilience, determination and character that this year group has demonstrated throughout their time at Backwell.
We are incredibly proud of all that our students have accomplished. Their commitment to learning, willingness to embrace challenges and support for one another have embodied our school values of being Kind, Curious and Ambitious. These qualities have enabled them to achieve excellent outcomes and prepare confidently for their next steps.
This year's results are particularly pleasing. 10% of students achieved a remarkable set of results consisting entirely of Grade 8s and above, while 22% of students secured all Grade 7s and above. Across the year group, the average Attainment 8 grade was 5.25, reflecting strong performance across a broad range of subjects. In addition, 33% of all grades awarded were at Grades 9-7, 78% were at Grades 9-5, and 94% were at Grades 9-4.
These achievements are a testament to the hard work and dedication of our students, but they are also the result of a collective effort. I would like to thank our exceptional staff, whose expertise, care and unwavering commitment have supported students every step of the way. Their passion for education and belief in every young person have been instrumental in helping our students realise their potential.
I would also like to express my sincere gratitude to parents and carers. The encouragement, guidance and support provided at home have played a vital role in these successes. Strong partnerships between school and families are at the heart of student achievement, and we are thankful for the trust and support shown throughout the years.
We are delighted that the majority of our Year 11 students will be returning to Backwell to continue their studies in the Sixth Form, and we look forward to supporting them in the next stage of their educational journey. We also extend our warmest congratulations and best wishes to those students embarking on apprenticeships, college courses and other exciting opportunities locally. We know they will continue to thrive and make a positive contribution to their communities.
As we celebrate today's results, we do so with immense pride in this exceptional year group and everyone who has contributed to their success. Their achievements reflect not only academic excellence, but the strength of our community and the values that underpin everything we do.
Congratulations, Year 11. We are incredibly proud of you. Wherever your next steps may lead, we wish you every success for the future, and always remember, ‘We are Backwell’.
